‌"Moving Forward" By Brittany Cochrane

Our artwork for 2024 is called Moving Forward by Brittany Cochrane.

This year’s artwork is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Brittany is a proud Aboriginal woman from Biripi country located on the NSW Mid North Coast. She grew up with strong influences from local culture - not just learning about but also practising tradition. Brittany has worked on multiple art projects within the local community including re-branding for The Mid Coast council. It is our honour to have this year's artwork created by a truly vibrant and talented artist.

The multiple meeting places, scattered dots, land lines and circles are symbolic to all the different tribes coming together in solidarity. They're all placed on one journey line to signify we’re all on the same journey in unity. While the knowledge sticks symbolises the enduring strength and vitality of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. The stars are symbolic to the sparks of pride and unity, igniting a renewed commitment to acknowledging, preserving, and sharing the cultural heritage that enriches our nation.
